HTML history
Simplified HTML’s journey from early code to HTML5 in a short presentation for the Sainsbury’s Content team.
Brief: The content team responsible for creating banners and pages for the Sainsbury’s site often had little or no experience working directly with HTML. To help bridge the gap, I put together a short presentation that explained the evolution of HTML and CSS, and how the shift to HTML5 introduced new structures and standards.
Skills used: Presenting | HTML | HTML5 | CSS3
Process
We followed TH_NK’s structured approach — starting with Foundation Design, then moving through 11 Design Sprints before launch.
Researched the key milestones in HTML’s development.
Highlighted how early versions handled structure vs. style, and why CSS became essential.
Showed the improvements in HTML5 for layout, accessibility, and multimedia support.
Kept the session accessible for non-technical audiences, with visual examples and simplified explanations.
Outcome
The presentation gave the content team a clearer understanding of how HTML and CSS worked together, helping them feel more confident when working with code snippets or structured content. It also set a baseline of knowledge that supported smoother collaboration between design, content, and development teams.
